Our life flows from one daily routine to the next, filled with actions - directed toward others and toward surrounding us objects. Things… They often define who we are. We buy them, move around and sell them. We rarely stop to appreciate just how extraordinary this journey is - from a single cell, a microscopic droplet of liquid, densely packed with information, into a vast, complex, and conscious multicellular organism.
After becoming thinking beings, we spend much of our lives blind to these glimpses of wonder - too preoccupied with maintaining our biological vessels, too absorbed in keeping them functional: feeding, protecting, and distracting our minds just enough to carry on.
Rarely do we pause and ask: What is all of this? Why are we here?
In our search for meaning, we often turn to religion. It offers answers rooted in faith, drawn from sacred texts preserved across centuries. These narratives structure our fleeting feelings of the incredible, and provide comfort to our minds. But they also demand a leap - a surrender of rational thinking in favor of belief without empirical proof. They call for adherence to dogma.
We live in a world increasingly dominated by science and logic, where explanations must be testable, and truth must be verifiable. But, despite our progress, the fundamental questions remain unanswered. Why does anything exist at all? Who am I? What was before the spark of birth, and what lies beyond the annihilation of our body into disordered chaos of molecules? Where does consciousness - the very essence that comprehends it all - go?
In this tension between faith and reason, action and reflection, routine and revelation - many find themselves suspended. They become agnostics - neither believing nor disbelieving in the existence of something that brought us here and will take us back. They are stuck in the 'fence' between religion and atheism - a pure denial of any higher power that orchestrates our presence in this world. Atheism, in fact, holds the opposing belief: that an infinitely complex, information-rich system like ourselves could emerge and then vanish into nothingness.
Agnostics avoid deep questions - what's the point if they can't be answered? Disbelieving became the mark of intelligence. Doubt in untestable ideas is a hallmark of insightfulness. Smart people don't insist on concepts they neither understand nor can verify.
Yet many turn to scientists, who rely on logic and reason to build theories that can be proven. They know how to find truth and use it to create surrounding things that bring comfort to our bodies and convenience to our lives - all these material objects that keep us busy. Scientists transform knowledge into discoveries. Who else is there to trust?
And this is what some leading scientists would tell you:
